Dwarves at the End of Time


  The music in the original, non-Steam version of has always struck me as deeply evocative. There are only two tracks - one for and another for - and both are incredibly simple. A lone acoustic guitar recorded using less than ideal equipment, with constant droning white noise as the only other sound that can be heard throughout, all of it apparently recorded in one go without much planning by Tarn Adams, the co-creator of the game.
Both incredibly rudimentary, and yet I feel a deep melancholy when I listen to these tracks. Like someone is about to to tell me a story that I know will end in tragedy, a story where everything will go wrong despite the participants' best efforts - if things haven't already gone wrong - a story where everyone in it is deeply aware of that fact but carries on nonetheless. It is not
